I was given permission to borrow a Nikon D1X for a few weeks during a busy, but not particularly busy, summer. At the time the D1X was probably considered the pinnacle of digital camera technology. Fortunately for many photographers, Nikon has manged to get the size of their state-of-the-art digital cameras down some since then. The things are sturdy, but it really is like carrying a large stone around your neck.
